Community Clothing Swap

Date: Saturday, January 24, 2026

Time: 12:00 - 3:00 pm

Location: Reading Public Library Community Room (64 Middlesex Ave)

From the Reading Public Library website:

New year, new wardrobe! Join us for a sustainability-focused community clothing swap of new and gently used fashion! See the Reference Desk for donation guidelines and participation information.

Every year, people in the United States throw out more than 34 billion pounds of used textiles. Divided across the population, that’s more than 100 pounds of textile waste per person each year. Of those, 66% end up in landfills.

Give your new and gently used clothes a second life with a sustainability-focused clothing swap! Help the environment, clean out your closet, and build community with a free fashion sharing event!

READ GUIDELINES BELOW CAREFULLY before donating or participating. Unacceptable items will be refused.

How to donate:

  • Donations accepted: Visit the Reference Desk Sunday, January 18 through Friday, January 23rd. Items will not be accepted on swap day!

  • Limit (10) items per person may be donated, with no more than (20) items total per household.

What we can take:

  • Shirts, pants, dresses, skirts, shorts, coats/outerwear.

  • CLEAN, LAUNDERED (or brand new with tags) clothing items in good condition for all ages, sizes and genders.

  • No stains, holes, tears, missing buttons/zippers or other major defects.

WE CANNOT ACCEPT: shoes, lingerie/undergarments, formal wear, costumes, swimwear, socks/hosiery, accessories (belts, scarves, jewelry, ties, gloves, hats, mittens), or household textiles (curtains, towels, bedding, etc.). *We are planning an accessories swap in the spring so watch for more information to come!

On swap day:

Visit us between 12-3 pm to "shop" for your closet! Bring a reusable bag to take your treasures home.

Leftover items will be donated to local charities or responsibly recycled.
