Hundreds of residents gathered on the Reading Town Common on Thursday, April 16, 2026, for Aprilfest, a community celebration that marked the arrival of spring with an evening of food, music, and local connection.
After a long winter, warm and sunny weather helped draw a wide cross-section of the community, from families with young children to teens, adults, and seniors, creating a lively and welcoming atmosphere throughout the Common.
The scene stood in stark contrast to the originally scheduled Winterfest in March, when nearly two feet of snow covered the Common and forced organizers to postpone the event.
Food, vendors, and community organizations

The Common was filled with a mix of food vendors, local businesses, and community organizations offering something for everyone.
Local breweries, including Wandering Soul Brewing Co., Hopothecary Ales, and Small Change Brewing Co., served beer, while Marble Ridge Winery offered wine selections.
Food options ranged from soft pretzels from Swiss Bakers to empanadas from Del Sur, cupcakes from Cupcake City, and snacks and drinks from Empower on Haven.
Community organizations and local businesses, including Reading Municipal Light Department (RMLD), Royal Air Systems, and Reading Cooperative Bank, hosted booths and engaged with residents throughout the evening. A lion mascot at the Royal Air Systems booth was a popular attraction for younger attendees.
Ice Sculptures and activities

A highlight of the event was a series of ice sculptures, including custom pieces representing Austin Preparatory School and Route 128 Honda.
The sculptures were sponsored by a wide range of local and regional partners, including All People, Amazon Robotics, Austin Prep, Jordan’s Furniture, Northern Bank, Reading Cooperative Bank, Service Pumping & Drain, Sweepman Chimney & Fire, The Reading Observer, The Residences at Pearl Street, and The Savings Bank.
Nearby, families gathered around fire tables to enjoy s’mores, supported by sponsors Cain Oil, Inc., Greater Boston Stage Company, Lee Kimball Design & Build, LMG Marketing, Northeast Illuminators, Post 1917, Reading Gymnastics Company, Reading Orthodontics, The Goddard School, and Weston & Sampson.
Sponsors and downtown connection
Aprilfest was made possible by a range of sponsors, including signature sponsor Route 128 Honda, wristband sponsor Latham Law Offices, and Blizzard sponsors Royal Air Systems and Flush Portable Restrooms.

The event also extended beyond the Common, with businesses along Main Street and Haven Street staying open later to welcome visitors and encourage residents to explore downtown.
A successful return
With strong attendance, favorable weather, and broad community participation, Aprilfest delivered on its goal of bringing residents together after the winter months.
The event highlighted not only the vibrancy of Reading’s local business community, but also the continued importance of shared public space in fostering connections across generations.
