Choose renewable. Choose local. Choose RMLD’s Renewable Choice Program

Looking for a meaningful way to reduce your carbon footprint and support clean energy close to home? RMLD’s Renewable Choice program lets customers voluntarily increase the amount of renewable, non-carbon energy powering their home or business - going above the standard energy mix delivered each year.

When you enroll, RMLD retires additional Massachusetts Class I renewable energy certificates on your behalf. These certificates directly support New England renewable projects and help accelerate the transition to a cleaner regional grid.

How it works

Participants select a renewable energy level - 75% or 100% renewable/non-carbon - and pay a small monthly charge based on electricity usage. That additional support ensures more clean power is sourced to meet your energy needs.

Estimated monthly cost for a typical home (800 kWh/month)

Approx. Monthly Charge

~$7

~$15

Level/Rate

75% / $0.008/kWh

100% / $0.018/kWh

Estimated monthly cost for a typical business(4,909 kWh/month)

Approx. Monthly Charge

~$40

~$88

Level/Rate

75% / $0.008/kWh

100% / $0.018/kWh

Note: Charges vary based on monthly energy usage. These examples are illustrations.

Even a small monthly amount can make a big impact when it comes to expanding renewable energy.

Who can participate?

All RMLD customers are eligible, as long as they are in good standing on their account and commit to one year in the program

Why renewable energy certificates matter

Each megawatt-hour of clean energy produced in New England generates a renewable energy certificate (REC), proof that the electricity came from a qualifying renewable source. By choosing Renewable Choice, you’re helping:

  • Expand renewable energy resources in our region

  • Support solar, wind, and other clean power projects

  • Strengthen the long-term sustainability of the New England grid

Think of it as voting for a greener energy future - with every kilowatt-hour you use.

Power a cleaner future

With Renewable Choice, you can take an active role in creating a more sustainable community and accelerating clean energy progress. It’s a small step that leads to big environmental benefits - right here at home.

Make the switch today. Your energy matters.
