Community gathers for Bike Rally at Reading Public Library

(1—2 minute read)

On Thursday, August 14, a small group of residents gathered for the Bike Rally in the parking lot of the Reading Public Library. Under a beautiful sky, riders of all ages and skill levels showed off their wheels - from the youngest participant on a balancing bike, to another with training wheels and pinwheels, to several older kids zooming around with confidence. Reading Cares also joined in, hosting a table and handing out stickers from REI.

Library staff provided a creative station where little riders could decorate their bikes and helmets with streamers, stickers, pinwheels, and beads. Once their rides were decked out, the older kids tested their skills by weaving through poles set up across the lot.

When everyone was ready, the parade began. Jonah proudly led the way on his purple bike, while RPL staff member Cate Zannino brought up the rear on the library’s Book Bike, making sure everyone stayed together. After the parade, the kids had the chance to balance on their bikes while grabbing a hoop from Ms. Zannino.

The rally highlighted community spirit and togetherness. Leo made sure his younger brother Jaime felt included in the fun, while sisters Amelia and Eliza rode alongside one another as their baby sister and mom cheered them on.
