Heat Warning issued for Reading; cooling centers open through Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued an extreme heat warning for the Reading area, in effect from Wednesday, July 1, through Saturday, July 4.
The Town of Reading reminds residents that the Reading Public Library and the Pleasant Street Center will be open regular hours and serve as cooling centers through Thursday, July 2. Both buildings will be closed on Friday and Saturday for the Fourth of July holiday.
The library will be open 9:00 am to 9:00 pm on Wednesday and 1:00 pm to 9:00 pm on Thursday. The Pleasant Street Center will be open 8:30 am to 4:00 pm both Wednesday and Thursday.
The Commonwealth of Massachusetts has additional resources for coping with extreme heat and preparations to make ahead of time.
Residents are encouraged to check on elderly and disabled neighbors, as well as others who may be vulnerable to the heat.
