January is Cervical Awareness Month

(2-minute read)

January is recognized as Cervical Cancer Awareness Month, highlighting the importance of prevention, screening, and early detection.

Regular screening is essential in preventing cervical cancer, yet about one in four women has not been screened as recommended. Medical guidance recommends Pap tests every three years for individuals ages 21-65, helping detect changes before they develop into cancer.

Prevention saves lives

The introduction of the HPV vaccine has led to a 63% drop in cervical cancer deaths since 2006, demonstrating the effectiveness of prevention and early intervention.

Residents are encouraged to discuss screening schedules and vaccination options with their healthcare providers. Awareness, routine care, and access to preventive services remain key tools in reducing cervical cancer rates and improving long-term health outcomes.
