Newburyport City Councillor At-Large Sarah Hall Endorses Tram Nguyen for Congress

Andover, MA – Today, State Representative Tram Nguyen announced earning the endorsement of Newburyport City Councillor At-Large Sarah Hall. A former Vice Chair of the Newburyport School Committee, Councillor Hall brings the twenty-second endorsement earned by Representative Nguyen in her campaign for Congress from a local elected leader in the 6th Congressional District.

“Tram has the perfect combination of personal, professional, and political experience to be the legislator we need at this moment for MA’s 6th district,” said Councillor Hall. “As a lawyer and State Representative, she has dedicated her career to making people’s lives easier and better. She listens, she cares, and she knows how to get things done.”

ABOUT TRAM T. NGUYEN: State Representative Tram Nguyen has overcome tough challenges her entire life. At just five years old, Tram came to the United States as a refugee after her family fled Vietnam’s authoritarian regime with only $100, a few suitcases, and a dream. She is the first in her family to graduate from college, earning degrees from Tufts University, Northeastern School of Law, and the Harvard Kennedy School.

Before entering public service, Tram served as an attorney at Greater Boston Legal Services, where she led the Civil Legal Assistance for Victims of Crime program. She stood up for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, veterans, immigrants, low-wage workers, and people with disabilities—people who needed not just a lawyer but a relentless advocate. In that role, Tram became a member of UAW Local 2320.

In 2018, Tram took on a deeply entrenched Republican incumbent and won by ten points, making history as the first Vietnamese American woman ever elected to public office in Massachusetts. Since then, she has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives as a bold champion for climate action, affordable housing, workers’ rights, and economic opportunity for all.

Tram Nguyen’s journey from refugee to state leader is a testament to the power of resilience, the promise of opportunity, and the belief that when we fight for one another, we all rise together.
