Overnight power outage planned for Main Street area as RMLD replaces transformer

The Reading Municipal Light Department will replace a transformer in the Main Street, Harnden Street, and Salem Street area beginning at 11:00 pm on Sunday, July 26, with work scheduled to finish before 6:00 am on Monday, July 27. The resulting power outage is expected to last four to six hours.

Traffic signals affected

The traffic signal at Main Street and Salem Street and at Main Street and Woburn Street will be out of service for the duration of the outage. Temporary traffic control signs and message boards will be in place at both locations, and the Reading Police details will be in place at each intersection to direct traffic and keep motorists, pedestrians, and utility crews safe.

Drivers traveling through the area overnight should use caution, expect possible delays, and follow directions of officers on scene and posted signage.

Notification to residents

RMLD has provided outage notifications to customers within the affected area.
