Poetry by Richard Perry:

Christmas 2021

The holiday season once again is here,

I wonder what things will be like this year.

Christmas 2020 seemed so very strange,

Family traditions were forced to change.

Travel was limited, masks were required,

It was hard for people to be inspired.

Churches were on Zoom, no Carols to sing.

A horrid disease had changed everything.

Not just at home, but all over the earth.

How would we celebrate our Savior's birth?

Born in a stable, no bright twinkling lights,

A few lowly shepherds witnessed the sight.

The Savior of the world lay before their eyes,

While the songs of angels filled the night skies.

Now it’s Christmas again, and we wait to see

Just what kind of Christmas will this year be?

Will we be wearing masks? What will be the cost?

How do we keep the meaning from getting lost?

We’ll gather with family, gifts under the tree,

There is joy to be shared by you and by me.

Yet, the Christmas message remains the same,

It’s the birth of our Savior, and why He came.

Celebrate, be happy, and be filled with great joy,

Remember it starts with the birth of a boy,

Who came to this earth to walk among men,

And pray for the day He will come back again.

Until that day, we must always remember

To thank God each day, not just in December.
