Poetry by Richard Perry: Awakened

Awakened

I felt like I would never see the light

Then I heard a whisper, it’s time to write

It’s been so long, but suddenly I see

Relief from the pain was up to me

They came easily; the words would just flow

The door had opened; step in and go

I shared this gift with my sister and brothers

But they were meant for me, not just for others

The pain and the sorrow of recent years

Had clouded my mind with worry and tears

My faith was strong, but a little shaken

Now I see the paths I should have taken

I shared my problems with folks close to me

But losing my fears was what set me free

Now looking ahead, my pathway is clear

God’s walking with me, there’s nothing to fear

He’ll give me the strength that I need to cope

Assured of His love, I must never lose hope

I obviously doubted my strength in the past

But perhaps I’m on the right path at last.
