Poetry by Richard Perry: Detours

Detours

I awoke this morning to gloomy skies;

Sitting up, I wiped the sleep from my eyes.

Determined not to let the skies of grey;

Pull a blanket of sadness over the day.

I thanked God for this gift He’s given me;

Wondering just what His plan might be.

Of course, there are the tasks I do each day;

Mixed with hopes there would be time to play.

A nap to refresh me would be very nice;

They have happened, unplanned, once or twice.

Each day’s not scripted, but we must understand;

Life may require us to change things we’ve planned.

We wake up each morning with hopes for the day;

But sometimes our plans may be taken away.

There are just some things we cannot control.

But look deep inside to the peace in your soul.

As we travel life’s road, there may be detours.

Just thank God each day for this journey of yours.
