Poetry by Richard Perry: From Then Til Now
From Then Til Now
That last night that I held you, I’ve relived again and again.
Sitting by your bed, I said, “I love you, TTFN.
It was late, and I was getting tired. I’d seen you twice that day.
I didn’t know that angels would soon come to take you away.
Though sadness may still grip my heart and there may be tears,
I think of how blessed my life has been over recent years.
I feel your presence every day, your love still sees me through,
And God has made it clear He has more work for me to do.
He gives me words to share to help others to live on,
Showing them they can survive after a loved one is gone.
It may not be easy for a while, but we are not alone.
Friends and family will always be here; we’re never on our own.
Some days will be difficult, but we will find ways to cope.
We have the strength God’s given us, and we must not lose hope.
So, as you wake up in the morning and think about your life,
Remember, we’re all destined to face some grief and strife,
It is all part of the fabric of His eternal plan.
And we must live on in the hope we'll someday understand.
