Poetry by Richard Perry: Hungry…Homeless…Why?
Hungry….Homeless….Why?
Why in a land blessed with such bounty and great wealth
Do so many have nothing and fear for their health?
Why are we reluctant to accept all we’ve lost?
Our children and veterans, it’s such a great cost.
Children without food, veterans living on the street,
Our action is required, obligations we must meet.
Perhaps it is that we have chosen not to see
When these situations do not affect you and me.
The recent pandemic certainly made all this worse,
Now, we need to work harder and set the right course.
One great nation under God, that’s the American dream,
Yet, sadly, some things are not always what they seem.
Children are going hungry, and we must confess
Too many of our veterans are now living homeless.
There are folks working hard, doing all they can
To find solutions that will help their fellow man.
Children are our future, and they need to be fed,
Those who’ve served deserve a roof over their head.
Just two of the problems needing to be solved.
Yet, answers won’t be found if we don’t get involved.
Try to think of ways you might help as your life moves on,
Assured you’ve done your best when your life is gone.
God provides what we need, but we must understand.
And use the gifts He’s given just as He has planned.
