Poetry by Richard Perry: When The Words Come

When The Words Come

When the words come to me, be it day or night;

I stop what I’m doing and sit down to write.

A first line is written and I am underway;

But, occasionally I need to stop and pray.

To ask God for help when I can’t find a word;

Knowing full well that my prayer will be heard.

I may be searching for a word to rhyme,

And, of course, God will answer in His time.

So, I may have to stop, and put things away;

To continue the poem on another day.

Then I get a thought or the needed word;

To finish the message God wants to be heard.

He has blessed me with this precious gift;

Bringing comfort to those in need of a lift

Out of the depths of their grief and despair;

Assuring them there are others who care.

So I’ll continue to write as long as I live;

Thankful for the help God guides me to give.
