Reading Police Department announces updated approach to overnight parking ban
(2-3 minute read)
The Reading Police Department has announced that it will once again take a flexible approach to enforcing the Town’s all-night parking ban, implementing restrictions only when snow is predicted, except within the Downtown Business District, where regulations remain in effect at all times.
Under this system, when snow is forecasted, both the Police Department and the Town will issue alerts through social media channels and the Town website to notify residents that overnight street parking is temporarily prohibited. During these periods, any vehicle left on the street will be subjected to ticketing and towing at the owner’s expense.
Certain areas, however, will continue to be subject to year-round enforcement. All Town-owned municipal parking lots and regulated streets within the Downtown Business District will remain under continuous overnight parking restrictions, regardless of weather conditions. Residents are encouraged to review the attached map for a clear overview of these zones.
For those with a valid residential parking sticker, designated overnight parking is available at the depot on Lincoln Street. On the map below, this exception area is marked with a black arrow for easy identification.
Residents who have questions about these regulations or the updated enforcement approach may contact the Reading Police Department at Parking@ReadingMA.gov.
