Select Board marks 25th anniversary of September 11 with proclamation, ceremony set for Friday

The Reading Select Board issued a proclamation at its September 8 meeting at Reading Town Hall honoring the victims of September 11, 2001, marking the 25th anniversary of the attacks and recognizing the firefighters, police officers, emergency workers, and ordinary citizens who stepped forward to help others that day.

The proclamation (on page 38 of the Select Board packet) specifically remembers Reading’s own Kevin McCarthy among those lost and states that the passage of time does not diminish the importance of remembering those who died or families and loved ones who continue to carry their memory. It calls September 11 a reminder of the strength found in compassion, unity, and service, and closes with a simple line: “May we never forget.” The proclamation was signed by Chair Melissa Murphy, Vice Chair Karen Rose-Gillis, and members Karen Herrick, Sal Bramante, and Chris Haley.

Reading Public Safety, the Reading Fire Department, Reading Firefighters Local 1640, and the Reading Police Department are inviting the community to join them for a remembrance ceremony this Friday:
