Sign up for CodeRED to receive emergency alerts in Reading

(2-3 minute read)

Residents are encouraged to sign up for CodeRED, the Town’s emergency notification system that delivers critical alerts directly to your phone. The service helps keep the community informed and prepared during urgent situations.

CodeRED is used to share time-sensitive information, such as severe weather warnings, public safety emergencies, road closures, utility disruptions, and other important community alerts. Messages can be sent by phone, text, or email, depending on your preferences.

Why CodeRED matters

Staying informed during emergencies can make a real difference in how quickly and safely residents can respond. CodeRED provides:

  • Immediate emergency and safety alerts

  • Real-time local notifications

  • Direct communication to registered phones and devices

  • Coverage for weather, infrastructure, and public safety incidents

Officials encourage residents not only to register themselves, but also to help spread the word so more households are connected.

Encouraging friends, family, and neighbors to enroll strengthens community awareness and preparedness and supports Reading for everyone.
