Transit Police Sergeants’ Union Endorses David Solet for Middlesex District Attorney

Boston, MA - The Transit Police Sergeants’ Union today announced its endorsement of David Solet for Middlesex District Attorney, citing his 24 years of prosecutorial experience, strong partnership with law enforcement, and commitment to protecting communities across Middlesex County. 

The endorsement reflects Solet's longstanding record of working alongside police sergeants to pursue justice for victims and his commitment to modernizing the District Attorney's Office to confront today's evolving public safety challenges. As District Attorney, Solet has pledged to aggressively combat illegal gun trafficking, strengthen protections for seniors targeted by financial exploitation and cybercrime, improve the prosecution of drugged driving offenses, and advocate for reforms that ensure prosecutors have the tools necessary to protect communities from dangerous offenders.

“Dave Solet has the experience and understanding of the criminal justice system that we need in the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office,” said David Silen, President of the Transit Police Sergeants’ Union. “He understands the challenges law enforcement officers face and the importance of working together to keep our communities safe. His record as a prosecutor shows that he is prepared to take on serious crimes, support the officers who investigate them, and fight for justice for victims. And we know personally that he shares our commitment to protecting the people who use our public transportation systems - our investigators worked closely with him to solve a terrible cold case from 2013, where a knife-wielding rapist attacked a young woman at the Acton Commuter Rail station. Dave Solet got justice for that victim. We are proud to endorse Dave Solet for Middlesex District Attorney.” 

Solet said: "Receiving the endorsement of the Transit Police Sergeants' Union is a tremendous honor. They know my work, they know my commitment to victims, and they know how much I care about getting it right.”

Solet will establish a dedicated Crime Gun Unit focused on identifying, disrupting, and prosecuting the criminal networks responsible for trafficking illegal firearms into Massachusetts. He has also pledged to modernize the District Attorney's Office to better address emerging crimes driven by advances in technology, including cyberstalking, online exploitation, cryptocurrency fraud, and financial crimes targeting older adults. In addition, Solet will advocate for stronger protections against elder financial exploitation, ensuring prosecutors have the legal tools needed to hold offenders accountable when vulnerable seniors are manipulated or abused.

Recognizing the growing threat posed by drug-impaired driving, Solet has also committed to working with law enforcement, legislators, and public safety leaders to advance evidence-based reforms that improve the investigation and prosecution of drugged driving cases while protecting due process. He has further pledged to support legislative reforms that close gaps in Massachusetts' dangerousness law, allowing prosecutors to seek detention hearings for individuals accused of the most serious violent crimes when public safety demands it.

"There are real public safety challenges facing Middlesex County, and standing still is not an option," Solet said. "Whether it's stopping illegal guns before they reach our neighborhoods, protecting seniors from increasingly sophisticated financial crimes, addressing the rise in drugged driving, or ensuring dangerous offenders can be held accountable, I will lead an office that is proactive, principled, and focused on protecting the people of Middlesex County."

A veteran prosecutor for twenty-four years, Solet has sought justice for victims of domestic violence, gun violence, narcotics trafficking, and public corruption. He was a longtime member of the office’s Special Investigations Unit, which prosecuted organized crime, then served as the first Chief of the Cyber Protection Unit, fighting online child exploitation. Since 2019, he served as the first Chief of the Middlesex County Cold Case Homicide Unit, investigating hundreds of unsolved homicides and dozens of unsolved sex assaults. 

For his work, he was named Middlesex County Prosecutor of the Year in 2025, and has received numerous other awards from law enforcement organizations.

An honors graduate of Harvard Law School, Solet previously served as Chief Legal Counsel to the Massachusetts Secretary of Public Safety. He is a Major in the JAG Corps of the United States Army Reserve, where he has been a defense attorney for soldiers, and represented victims of sexual assault. He is the proud father of two daughters, both graduates of Newton North High School, and now lives in Cambridge.
