Unhealthy heat advisory in effect June 406: Reading Public Health Dept. urges residents to take precautions

An unhealthy heat advisory is in effect from June 4-6, and the Town of Reading Public Health Department is urging residents to take steps to protect themselves and their neighbors.

The current forecast is RED - meaning temperatures are 85°F or above for three or more consecutive days, posing a high heat risk for all populations. All residents and outdoor workers should take action to reduce the risk of heat impacts.
Residents are encouraged to monitor the Massachusetts Unhealthy Heat Forecast to help plan for periods of elevated heat. The forecast uses a color-coded system to identify heat risk levels:
Green (below 78°F): no significant heat-related health risks
Yellow (78°F - 84°F): some increased risk for vulnerable populations
Orange (85°F+ for 1-2 days): increased risk for all; take steps to reduce heat impacts
Red (85°F for 3 or more consecutive days): high risk for all; take action immediately
Certain groups face a higher risk during extreme heat, including older adults, young children, individuals with chronic medical conditions, and those who work or spend extended time outdoors.
Before heading outside, residents should:

Stay well hydrated throughout the day
Take frequent breaks in cool, air-conditioned locations
Check on neighbors, friends, and family members who may need assistance
