Winter Storm Fern expected to bring heavy snow to Reading beginning Sunday

Town officials are urging residents to prepare as Winter Storm Fern is forecast to bring heavy snow to Reading and the surrounding area beginning Sunday, January 25, with impacts expected to continue into Monday.

Snow is expected to begin around 2:00 pm Sunday, with snowfall rates reaching 1 inch or more per hour through the early morning hours. Lighter snow is expected to continue throughout the day on Monday, creating hazardous travel conditions and ongoing cleanup needs.

DPW operations & parking ban

The Reading Department of Public Works plans to begin plowing operations on Sunday afternoon.

With plowable snow expected, the on-street parking ban is in effect. Residents are asked to move all vehicles off the street immediately to allow plow crews to safely and efficiently clear roadways. DPW officials thank residents in advance for their cooperation.

Trash & recycling delayed

Republic Services will not collect trash and recycling on Monday, January 26. All scheduled pickups will be delayed by at least one day for the remainder of the week.

Closures & schedule changes

Due to the storm, several municipal buildings and services will be closed:

The Reading Public Library will be closed Sunday, January 25, and Monday, January 26
Reading Town Hall and Pleasant Street Center will be closed on Monday, January 26
All Reading Public Schools will be closed on Monday, January 26
