Applications open for 2026 Reading Community Garden plots
(2-minute read)
The Town of Reading is now accepting applications for the 2026 Community Gardening Season, with applications and gardener agreements available as of January 1, 2026. Residents of all gardening experience levels, whether planting for the first time or returning for another season, are encouraged to apply.
The Community Garden at Mattera offers participants the opportunity to cultivate their own garden beds while connecting with fellow gardeners in a shared outdoor space that promotes sustainability, education, and community well-being. Plots are assigned on a seasonal basis, and early applications are recommended due to limited space.
How to apply
Applications and gardener agreements are available online through the Community Garden website.
Applicants are encouraged to review all program details and expectations outlined in the gardener agreement.
A garden for all experience levels
The Community Garden welcomes gardeners of all skill levels - from beginners eager to learn to seasoned growers looking to expand their harvest. The program fosters an inclusive, collaborative environment where participants can grow food and flowers while building friendships and a stronger connection to nature.
Supporting fresh food for the Reading Food Pantry
For the past two years, the Reading Food Pantry has grown fresh vegetables at the Community Garden to help provide nutritious food to neighbors in need. In 2026, the program is expanding this effort by offering raised garden bed plots at no charge for pantry use - but community support is needed to make it possible.
Residents and gardeners are encouraged to consider sponsoring a full or partial garden plot for the Food Pantry. Contributions help offset the cost of water for these plots, ensuring the pantry can continue growing fresh, local produce for distribution.
Ways to help include:
Sponsoring a full or partial plot fee
Spreading the word to fellow gardeners and residents
Supporting access to fresh, locally grown food for neighbors in need
Information on how to sponsor a plot can be found within the gardener application.
