Reading Select Board establishes new Disabilities Commission, seeks volunteers
(2-minute read)
At its first meeting of the new year, the Reading Select Board formally established Reading’s new Disabilities Commission and is now seeking residents interested in serving.
The Commission is intended to advise the Town on issues related to disability access, inclusion, and accommodations, helping to ensure that municipal policies, programs, and facilities are accessible to all residents.
Who should apply
The Town is seeking volunteers who can bring insight into disability access and accommodations through personal experience, professional background, or advocacy work. Lived experience, whether as a person with a disability, a caregiver, or an advocate, is strongly valued.
The Disabilities Commission will be made up of:
Five (5) voting members
Three (3) associate members
Appointment process
Applicants will be interviewed by the Volunteer Appointment Subcommittee (VASC), with interviews planned for late January. Final appointments are made by the Select Board following the interview process.
How to apply
Residents interested in serving are encouraged to submit a volunteer application as soon as possible. The volunteer application form can be found on the Town website.
Serving on the Disabilities Commission offers an opportunity to help shape a more inclusive and accessible Reading while amplifying the voices and experiences of residents with disabilities across the community.
