After winning MA-06 by more than 25 points, Congressman-elect Koh spends first days meeting with union workers, community nonprofits, and connecting with local leaders across the district
Peabody, MA — Days after winning Massachusetts' 6th Congressional District by more than 25 points, Congressman-elect Dan Koh is already at work in the communities he will represent. The descendant of Korean and Lebanese immigrants, Koh will be the first Asian American and the first Arab American to represent Massachusetts in Congress.
Koh made his first stop as Congressman-elect at 5:15 a.m. Wednesday, just hours after his victory, visiting Teamsters Local 25 members at Republic Services. He then ran 15 miles from his Andover home to his Peabody campaign office, one mile for each issue he plans to fight for in Congress, before volunteering with his campaign team at Beverly Bootstraps.
In the days since his election, Koh met with 6th District mayors, including Amesbury Mayor Kassandra Gove, Gloucester Mayor Paul Lundberg, Lynn Mayor Jared Nicholson, Newburyport Mayor Sean Reardon, Peabody Mayor Ted Bettencourt and Salem Mayor Dominick Pangallo. He also connected with community organizations Christopher Street Project, Neighbor 2 Neighbor, Solidarity Rising, NAGLY and 350 Mass North Shore.
On Friday, Koh hosted his first Facebook Live town hall as Congressman-elect, answering questions and hearing directly from residents about their priorities and hopes for the months ahead. He plans to make the virtual town halls a regular practice.
"I'm honored by the trust the people of the 6th District have placed in me, and I'll work every day to deliver for every one of them," said Koh. "And I'm proud to be part of a new generation of leaders making history across the country. But what matters is what we do with this opportunity: Lower costs, stand up to corruption, make government work for people again. The work starts now."
