The MBTA will continue infrastructure improvements along the Haverhill Line this weekend, including culvert replacements meant to support the long-term reliability of commuter rail service. The work will affect Reading commuters during the weekends of November 7-8 and November 14-15.

No Haverhill Line service between North Wilmington and North Station

There will be no Haverhill Line service between North Wilmington and North Station during both weekends. Trains will instead operate on the “Wildcat Branch” between Ballardvale and Anderson/Woburn on the Lowell Line, running express between Anderson/Woburn and North Station.

Free shuttle buses will replace train service

Free and accessible shuttle buses will cover the affected stretch of the line, with two routes available during the closure:

  • Shuttle Bus Route 1 will operate between Anderson/Woburn on the Lowell Line and Reading

  • Shuttle Bus Route 2 will operate between Reading and Oak Grove, connecting to Orange Line subway service between Oak Grove and North Station.

Plan ahead

The MBTA said the work is part of ongoing efforts to maintain and improve the infrastructure supporting reliable commuter rail service, and is encouraging Reading residents who rely on the Haverhill Line to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.

Residents can view the MBTA’s November service change information and diversion map, and the full shuttle bus schedule for more details.
