Downtown construction enters next phase, intersection closure coming

Reading’s Downtown Improvements Project is moving into its next phase, with a weeks-long closure of the High Street and Haven Street intersection expected to begin soon.

Crews have already made significant progress, including underground utility work, road paving, and sidewalk replacement. Sidewalk work is currently underway, including the replacement of the depot plaza.

Intersection closure

During the week of September 8, crews are expected to begin construction of a new stamped-concrete raised intersection at High Street and Haven Street. The intersection is expected to close for at least five full weeks to allow the concrete to cure, and the work may occur concurrently with ongoing sidewalk improvements.

What to expect

Drivers should plan ahead for detours and changing traffic patterns in the area, with more details on the road closure expected in the coming weeks. All downtown businesses will remain open during the work, and pedestrian access through the area will be maintained during the intersection closure. The town has thanked residents for their patience as the project continues.
