Reading’s Department of Public Works is asking residents to check the catch basins near their homes after staff noticed leaf debris beginning to build up on some of the town’s 3,000 catch basins. Clearing debris from a nearby basin takes just a few minutes and helps prevent blocked basins, which can cause street flooding and property damage.

Two weeks of curbside leaf collection remain

Curbside leaf collection continues for two more weeks this fall:

  • November 16 through November 20

  • November 30 through December 4

Yard waste will be picked up on residents’ regular collection day, and the DPW will post updates if delays occur.

What to know before putting leaves at the curb

Place yard waste at the curb in paper bags or open barrels. Sticks can be no thicker than 3 inches in diameter and no longer than 4 feet in length, and small branches should be bundled and tied. Yard waste placed in plastic bags or cardboard boxes will not be collected.
