(1-minute read)
The Pleasant Street Center in Reading is looking for student volunteers this November to support its Sand for Seniors program, which helps older residents stay safe during winter and reduce the risk of slips and falls.
What volunteers will do
Volunteers are needed to help prepare sand buckets for local seniors who are physically unable to get sand on their own. The work takes just one to two hours, filling 25 five-pound buckets with sand, which the Reading Police and Fire Departments will then deliver to seniors in need.
Why it matters
Organizers said the program is a simple way for students to help neighbors, make a difference in the community, and earn community service hours for their organization.
How to get involved
Students interested in volunteering can contact Senior Case Manager Janet Dubow at the Pleasant Street Center at 781-942-6608 for more information.
