Reading Recreation launches Snow Patrol to connect volunteers with neighbors in need

(1-minute read)

Reading Recreation, in partnership with Elder and Human Services, is launching Reading Snow Patrol, a free, volunteer-based program connecting residents with nearby neighbors who may need help clearing snow this winter.

Why the program is needed

Many residents, including some age 60 and older, may have difficulty clearing snow from their steps, walkways, sidewalks, driveways, and other essential areas around their homes. Snow Patrol volunteers will be matched with residents in their neighborhood or a nearby area whenever possible and asked to help clear those pathways following a snowfall.

Who can volunteer

Volunteers must be age 18 or older. Individuals, couples, and families can participate; younger family members must be accompanied by an adult at all times, and local snow removal businesses are also encouraged to take part. There is no cost to participate and no payment for volunteering, just an opportunity to help a neighbor.

How to sign up

Reading Recreation is asking residents to sign up before the program launches this winter, with a goal of building a strong team of volunteers townwide. Residents can register on the Reading Recreation website.
