Poetry by Richard Perry: A Wish

A Wish

If God could grant a special wish, I know what mine would be:

I would wish for one more day to have you here with me.

A chance to hear your voice again and feel you by my side;

Just like the days, so long ago, when you were my bride.

One more day to share and talk about the things we’d done.

Remembering those special times, we felt like we were one.

Holding one another when we went to bed at night;

Waking in the morning, feeling everything’s alright.

How sweet would be the moment just to feel you close to me.

But sadly, I must accept, this wish can never be.

So I’ll cling to my memories of the times while you were here,

Finding solace knowing that though gone, you’re always near;

And as my life continues, I will hope and pray to be

An even better man than when you shared this life with me.
