Reading launches budget video series ahead of Town Meeting

(1-2 minute read)

As Reading continues municipal budget season, town officials are offering residents a new way to better understand how local finances work and where their tax dollars go.

The Town has launched a series of short budget videos to provide a clear, accessible look at the budgeting process ahead of this spring’s Town Meeting.

A closer look at the budget process

Each video in the series will break down key components of the municipal budget, helping residents understand:

  • How the Town develops its annual budget

  • Where funding comes from

  • How spending decisions are made

  • The financial priorities shaping the upcoming fiscal year

The goal is to make what can often feel like a complex process more transparent and easier to follow.

Rolling out over the coming weeks

New videos will be released in the coming weeks, giving residents the opportunity to follow along as budget discussions progress.

The series will be available both on the Town website and through updates shared with the community.

Residents can watch the video here.

Preparing for Town Meeting

With Town Meeting this spring, the budget will be a central topic of discussion and decision-making.

These videos aim to:

  • Provide context ahead of Town Meeting votes

  • Help residents engage more confidently in budget discussions

  • Offer insight into how local government allocates resources
