Poetry by Richard Perry: Darkness to Light

Darkness to Light

Suddenly thrust into the darkest night

Wondering, if I’d ever again see the light

My beautiful wife was, all too soon, gone

Could I find the strength to carry on?

At first, it was hard to accept, and see

My life ahead had been planned for me

Yes, there’d be long days and tears at night

But my faith said, wait, you will be alright

Then one evening, I was about to learn

As the road ahead took a surprising turn

A troubling call from a friend that night

Caused me to sit down and start to write

She had moved, leaving her family behind

Her world now quiet, troubled her mind

The word quiet brought an inspiring note

And The Quiet was the first poem I wrote

An adventure started; I did not foresee

I found the path God had chosen for me

Using words to convey peace, hope, and love

Guided by the hand of my Father above.

Writing words, I hoped would bring relief

To those who are suffering the pain of grief

Words saying, stay strong, never lose hope

God will comfort you and help you to cope
