Poetry by Richard Perry: Getting Older

Getting Older

I knew I’d get older as the years passed away;

Then one day I woke up and it was that day.

It doesn’t matter if there’s sun or it rains;

Every morning there are aches and pains.

So I get out of bed, put my feet on the floor,

And wait to see what the day has in store.

Of course, the first thing to start my day;

Is spending time with God, taking time to pray.

I will feed my body, but first, it’s my soul;

No matter what’s ahead, God’s in control.

Some days may be harder, an uphill climb;

So I keep moving forward while I have time.

Always giving God thanks for all I hold dear;

For none of us know how long we’ll be here.

Each moment is precious as we have been told;

So cherish each day and enjoy growing old.

It’s a blessing and privilege not given to all;

For one day we all have to answer God’s call.
