Poetry by Richard Perry: Listen

Listen

Waking in the morning before I start my day

I sit and listen for what God might have to say.

Perhaps a calm assurance to face what lies ahead

So, I will understand there’s nothing I need to dread

I hear Him speak through the day in words that others say

And in the happy voices of children as they play

I hear Him in the gentle breeze rustling through the trees

And in those times of darkness when I fall upon my knees

As I come to Him for help, often through my tears

Hoping for the strength I need to conquer all my fears

We’re taught from our early years that God is always there

Assured that through each day and night, we are in His care

Yet, we must always listen as we journey through each day

Lest we miss the messages the Lord God sends our way.
