Poetry by Richard Perry: Our Future

Our Future

 Parades and fireworks on an enormous scope;

Give feelings within that there is still hope.

Hope that we can soon move out of the dark.

And, once again, rekindle that spark.

To the flame of liberty, freedom for all;

Honoring those who have answered the call.

They made it possible for us to live free.

Now our future is up to you and to me.

We must take action before it’s too late.

And all the wrong people determine our fate.

Our leaders are failing; it’s truly a shame.

Sadly, we all share part of the blame.

Our founding fathers gave us all the tools.

But our leaders find ways to bend the rules.

We all have a voice, so let’s make a move.

And do what we can to help things improve.

If things should get worse or remain the same;

We will only have ourselves to blame.

Liberty’s light is fading: we can’t let this be;

It needs to shine brightly for all to see.
