Poetry by Richard Perry: Memorial Day

Memorial Day

 On this day we look back on history;

Honoring those who died to keep us free.

Men and women, we honor them all;

Who without fear answered the call.

Volunteers and draftees too;

Their sacrifice was for me and you.

They left this land for foreign shores;

To fight and die in bloody wars.

Duty, and honor the creed they know;

Their sacrifice was for me and you.

Keeping dreams of hope and peace alive;

Goals for which we continually strive.

So, on this day of celebration.

We honor all who served our nation.

Who made the ultimate sacrifice;

Freedom comes with a heavy price.
