Reading DPW to host burnable bulk drop-off Saturday, October 24

Residents with larger household items to get rid of can do so later this month. The Reading Department of Public Works will host a Burnable Bulk Drop-Off on Saturday, October 24, 2026, from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the DPW Facility, 75 Newcrossing Road.

What to know before you go

The event is open to Reading residents only, and drivers should bring a driver’s license for identification. Each household may bring only one vehicle load. Only cars and pickup trucks are accepted; trailers, vans, box trucks, and commercial vehicles are not allowed.

Accepted items

DPW says the following items are acceptable:

  • Furniture: Sectional couches, upholstered couches and chairs, loveseats, wooden chairs, tables, desks, dressers, sideboards, entertainment centers, file cabinets, coffee tables, headboards, and vanities and cabinets

  • Wood: Wooden doors

  • Yard waste: Wood and benches, up to three to four bundles, secured with tape or rope. Bundles may not include foliage and must be no more than 6 inches in diameter and 4 feet in length, with a maximum weight of 50 pounds each. Bundles should be bagged.

  • Carpets and rugs: Must be rolled or bundled, cut into 4-foot lengths, and secured with tape or rope, with a maximum of six rolls

  • Artificial Christmas trees

  • Windows: Must be taped on both sides

Items not accepted

The following items cannot be dropped off:

  • Automotive equipment: Auto parts and riding lawn mowers

  • Appliances and metal: White goods and appliances, and metal items

  • Electronics: Electronics, TVs, and computer monitors

  • Building and construction materials: Concrete, sheetrock, tiles, roofing tiles, insulation, granite, ceramic, construction and demolition materials, and rigid plastics

  • Furniture and household: Billiard and pool tables, including slate, as well as mattresses, box springs, sinks, bathtubs, and toilets

  • Clothing and recycling: Cardboard, clothing, textiles, and yard waste other than bundled wood and branches described above

  • Hazardous waste: Household hazardous materials, fire extinguishers, oil-based or oil-painted items, and anything containing lead paint

  • Treated wood: Pressure-treated or creosote-treated wood and items
