Reading Women Leaders Endorse Tram Nguyen for Congress

Andover, MA -  Today, two senior Reading women leaders, Select Board Member Karen Herrick and former Select Board Member Anne Landry, announced their endorsements for Tram Nguyen’s campaign for Congress calling Tram a “fierce collaborator” and a leader who can “break through the gridlock in Washington.”

“As the senior member and former Chair of the Reading Select Board, I know exactly what it takes to build a community that is inclusive, sustainable, and affordable. Tram Nguyen is exactly the collaborator Reading needs as our next Congresswoman,” said Reading Select Board Member Karen Herrick. “Tram and I both grew up in working-class families, and attended Massachusetts public schools. She understands the ground-level financial struggles our residents face because she has lived them. In the State House, Tram has proven herself to be a fierce collaborator who knows how to turn environmental and housing goals into real, local funding. She is a practical, effective deliverer who will bridge the gap between Washington and our communities, and I am incredibly proud to endorse her for Congress.”

“Having served as Chair of the Reading Select Board, I know that true leadership is about building coalitions and actually getting the job done,” said former Select Board Member Anne Landry. “Tram Nguyen knows how to work closely with local leaders and deliver real, tangible progress on housing, transit infrastructure, and economic opportunity. Tram is exactly what we need to break through the gridlock in Washington, and I am proud to endorse her.”

Today’s endorsements build on the endorsements from more than 50 of Tram’s colleagues in the State House, as well as numerous city and town leaders, elected officials, labor organizations throughout the district and state, Progressive Mass, the SEIU State Council.

ABOUT TRAM T. NGUYEN: State Representative Tram Nguyen has overcome tough challenges her entire life. At just five years old, Tram came to the United States as a refugee after her family fled Vietnam’s authoritarian regime with only $100, a few suitcases, and a dream. She has always been a fighter, becoming the first in her family to graduate from college, and as an attorney with the Greater Boston Legal Services standing up for survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault, veterans, immigrants, low-wage workers, and people with disabilities. In that role, Tram became a member of UAW Local 2320. In 2018, Tram took on a deeply entrenched Republican incumbent and won by ten points, making history as the first Vietnamese American woman elected to public office in Massachusetts. Since then, she has served in the Massachusetts House of Representatives as a bold champion for climate action, affordable housing, workers’ rights, and economic opportunity for all.
