RMHS Internship Program puts students to work - and employers are taking notice

(2-minute read)

Reading Memorial High School’s Internship Program is doing exactly what it was designed to do: putting students in real workplaces, giving them real responsibilities, and sending them into the world better prepared for what comes next.

This year, more than 150 RMHS students interned across a wide range of fields: healthcare, engineering, education, finance, law, public safety, real estate, fitness, and the trades. The feedback from the professional who mentored them tells a compelling story.

The numbers

  • 94% of mentors rated interns 4 or 5 out of 5 for overall progress, skill development, and contribution

  • 90% of mentors rated interns 4 or 5 stars out of 5 for workforce readiness

  • 94% of mentors rated their overall experience with the program a 4 or 5 out of 5

Perhaps most telling, 94% of mentors said they would be willing to hire their intern, a vote of confidence that goes well beyond a favorable review.

Beyond the data

The statistics are striking, but the stories behind them are what make the program stand out. This year’s intern led classrooms, earned job offers, supported nonprofit events, and took on hands-on work that is typically reserved for college-level students. These were not observers - they were contributors.

That kind of experience, working alongside professionals in the field, navigating real deadlines and real expectations, is exactly the preparation that bridges the gap between the classroom and the workforce.

Help shape the next class

The RMHS Internship Program works because of the local businesses and organizations that open their doors to students each year. And with Spring 2027 on the horizon, organizers are looking to grow those partnerships.

Local professionals and business owners are invited to join the program. Hosting an intern means bringing fresh energy and perspective into your workplace while playing a direct role in developing Reading’s next generation of leaders. Whether you work in healthcare, tech, the arts, law, or any other field, there is a student ready to learn from you.
