Winter weather alerts: Blizzard Warning issued, snow emergency declared in Reading

The National Weather Service has issued a Blizzard Warning for Reading and surrounding communities, in effect from Sunday evening through Tuesday morning. The storm is expected to bring heavy snowfall and strong winds, creating dangerous travel conditions and reduced visibility.
In response, the Town Manager and Chief of Police have declared a snow emergency.
On-street parking ban
As part of the snow emergency:
All on-street parking is banned beginning 1:00 am Monday through 6:00 am Tuesday.
Vehicles that interfere with snow removal operations will be ticketed and towed at the owner’s expense.
Residents are urged to move vehicles off public roadways to allow plow crews to safely and efficiently clear streets.
Closures for Monday, Feb. 23
Due to the expected storm conditions, the following Town facilities will be closed on Monday:
Reading Public Schools
Reading Town Hall
Pleasant Street Center
Reading Public Library
DPW operations
The Reading Department of Public Works (DPW) plans to begin operations early Monday morning and continue throughout the day and into the evening as needed. Crews will prioritize main roads before addressing residential streets.
Trash & recycling delays
Republic Services will not collect rubbish and recycling on Monday (2/23). All scheduled pickups will be delayed by at least one day.
Stay safe and stay informed
Town officials will share additional updates as conditions evolve. Residents are encouraged to avoid unnecessary travel, monitor official Town communication channels, and check on elderly or vulnerable neighbors during the storm.
With blizzard conditions forecasted, safety remains the top priority.
