1199SEIU Endorses Kate Lipper-Garabedian for State Senate

Endorsement cites Lipper-Garabedian's record strengthening oversight of long-term care and advocating for older adults and the caregivers who serve them

MELROSE – 1199SEIU United Healthcare Workers East has endorsed Kate Lipper-Garabedian in the Democratic primary for the 5th Middlesex District State Senate seat. 1199SEIU represents tens of thousands of healthcare workers across Massachusetts, including home care workers, nursing home staff, and hospital employees.

The endorsement reflects Lipper-Garabedian's record fighting for older adults and the workers who support them across the continuum of care from home care to assisted living residences to long-term nursing facilities. As House Vice Chair of the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs in the last two legislative sessions, Lipper-Garabedian was an author, lead sponsor, and champion of the State’s landmark long-term care law that strengthened oversight and protections in nursing homes and expanded healthcare access in assisted living residences, reforms that directly improve the working conditions of the caregivers who staff them. This session, she continued to advocate for home care licensing legislation, a key 11999SEIU priority, and received recognition on the House floor for her leadership as the bill advanced to the Governor’s desk.

Lipper-Garabedian is a candidate in the Democratic primary for the 5th Middlesex District State Senate seat, which covers Malden, Melrose, Reading, Stoneham, Wakefield, and Winchester (Precincts 1, 2, 3, and 8). The primary is Tuesday, September 1.
