Annual water main flushing program begins this week
(1-2 minute read)
The Town of Reading Department of Public Works will begin its annual water main flushing program this week as part of ongoing efforts to maintain water quality and system reliability.
Flushing operations will take place nightly between 11:00 pm and 7:00 am.
Why flushing is important
According to DPW officials, the annual flushing program helps:
Improve overall water quality
Remove sediment buildup from water mains
Maintain optimal water flow for fire protection
The process is a routine part of maintaining the Town’s water infrastructure.
What residents may notice
During flushing operations, residents may temporarily experience water discoloration and slight reductions in water pressure.
Officials noted that the water remains safe for consumption during flushing, but residents are encouraged to check water clarity before doing laundry to help avoid potential staining.
