Poetry by Richard Perry: Closure
Closure
The sun rising in the east, a breeze comes off the sea,
Looking up, I ask, “Is Judi looking down at me?
Thinking of the days we spent at sea and by the shore,
Saying deep within my heart, I wish I could share more.
More time to feel the endless joy that daily filled my heart,
Trying to forget the moment God said we must part.
How suddenly my life changed, she was no longer here.
My heart broken, still I longed to hold her near,
But God had other plans, and I had to wait and see,
Just what it was, he had planned, what would he ask of me?
Once again, my life was changed. God opened up my eyes.
The dark times then began to fade, and I saw bluer skies.
A hidden gift had come to me, I could not have foreseen.
I began to write not knowing what it all would mean.
But I would learn that it was God helping me to grieve.
And then came something else that is still hard to conceive.
The words I write help others as they deal with their own grief,
My prayer is now that they will find peace and sweet relief.
So, standing here, beside the sea, I find peace within
As I look up toward heaven and say,
