Reading Superintendent announces departure at end of 2025-2026 school year
(3-4 minute read)
The Reading Public Schools community received bittersweet news this week as School Committee Chair Shawn Brandt announced that Dr. Milaschewski will step down as Superintendent at the conclusion of the 2025-2026 school year.
Dr. Milaschewski has accepted an offer to become Head of School at a top independent school in Florida, marking an exciting professional opportunity and an important personal step for him and his family.
A transformative tenure in Reading
In a letter from Chair Brandt, he explained that Dr. Milaschewski joined Reading Public Schools in 2021, and his leadership has been widely credited with strengthening the district’s culture, advancing innovation, and deepening community connections.
During his tenure, Dr. Milaschewski:
Led the selection and implementation of a new literacy curriculum, strengthening foundational learning across the district
Recruited and hired strong leaders into key administrative roles
Built collaborative and productive relationships with district unions, resulting in smooth, drama-free contract negotiations
Championed new student opportunities, including the Innovation Pathways program at Reading Memorial High School
His approach emphasized collaboration, trust, and forward-thinking leadership - qualities that have helped position Reading as one of the most sought-after school districts in the Commonwealth.
Looking ahead with confidence
While replacing a leader of Dr. Milschewski’s caliber will not be easy, Chair Brandt expressed confidence in the district’s leadership team and their ability to continue advancing key initiatives already underway.
Reading is expected to be a desirable destination for superintendent candidates, and district leaders are optimistic about drawing a strong and diverse pool of applicants for the role.
Superintendent search process
The School Committee will begin initial discussions about the superintendent search process at its upcoming Thursday, December 18, meeting. Community members can expect multiple opportunities to participate and provide input as the process unfolds.

A moment of gratitude

Community members are encouraged to congratulate Dr. Milaschewski on his next chapter and thank him for his outstanding service to Reading Public Schools.
